Brian Walters is a self-taught Connecticut-based artist working primarily with salvaged materials sourced throughout New England. His Hand Hewn series, begun in the early 2000s and expanded over time, consists of sculptural works in steel inspired by the hand-hewn timbers found in old homes and barns. Fascinated by the carving, gouging, and labor-intensive process of transforming logs into usable material, Walters recreates the marks and textures of that process in steel. The works are finished in either satin black or a satin clear coat.

Walters’ work has been exhibited nationally, with regional presentations at the Washington Art Association, Judy Black Memorial Gardens, Mattatuck Museum, New Britain Museum of American Art, Hudson Valley MOCA, and Hygienic Art, as well as Thomas Van Dyke and Little Lightning in Brooklyn.
