About the Artist
Heather Neilson is an abstract painter and mixed media artist based in Northwest
Connecticut. With a practice spanning three decades, her layered work explores
memory, landscape, and the passage of time — building intuitive surfaces that capture
not how the natural world looks, but how it feels: the weight of a humid summer
afternoon, the particular quiet of a familiar place, light shifting through seasons.
Working across acrylic, oil, cold wax, and collage, her paintings balance quiet and
tension in equal measure. She has exhibited widely throughout Connecticut and New
England, completed residencies at the Studios at MASS MoCA and the Atlantic Center
for the Arts, and studied at the Art Students League of New York. Her work is held in
private collections across the United States.
