Gerth Biese (1892–1966), an American painter and printmaker known for his contributions to mid-20th-century modernism. Signed and dated 1964, the work reflects Biese’s distinctive use of abstraction, strong geometric forms, and a subdued color palette, which typify much of his later printmaking.
Biese’s work is included in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and he is increasingly appreciated among collectors of American modernist prints.
