"Toward the Sun, Laguna Canyon" is an early 20th-century American plein-air landscape painting depicting the sunlit hills of Laguna Canyon with expressive brushwork and luminous, impressionistic color.

Helen F. Newton (American, 1878–1970) was a Connecticut-born landscape painter known for her impressionistic depictions of New England scenes and Western vistas. Based in Woodbridge, Connecticut, she traveled and painted on the West Coast during the late 1920s and 1930s, producing works that balance atmospheric light with expressive brushwork. Her paintings have appeared in regional exhibitions and in auction records under both Connecticut and California associations.
