Renzo Rutili (1901–1966), born in Donora, Pennsylvania, was a pioneering American furniture designer. A Carnegie Institute graduate who also studied in Europe, Rutili served as lead designer for Johnson Furniture for three decades, collaborating with Paul Frankl and Eliel Saarinen. Known for his inventive use of materials and refined detailing, Rutili designed for John Stuart, blending mid-century modern with 18th-century revival styles. Produced in Grand Rapids—once called “Furniture City”—his work reflects the region’s rich furniture-making heritage.
